RIJEKA

Rijeka is one of Croatia's main sea ports, but it felt like a tiny city. A large amount of the coast line is made up of industrial ports and harbours but there is the odd bit of beach paradise if you hunt for it. The beach we found was just used by locals and it felt basically untouched by tourists which made such a nice change. I visited the Natural History Museum of Rijeka and fully enjoyed drawing the bad taxidermy on show. They even had a small aquarium with fully alive fish as well as a room of hanging, dried sharks. It was a tiny museum but crammed with fish, sea life, rocks, insects, bones, stuffed animals and live fish in tanks. The city itself is a constant juxtaposition of modern and old. It feels like Rijeka is slowly trying to transform into a more modern city.
